CHI St. Alexius Health and Kohl’s Cares® team up to bring children in our communities the opportunity to learn more about health and wellness topics. Childhood obesity is a growing problem in our nation so it is important to educate our children. This year’s “Back to School Extravaganza” featuring “Alex’s Buddy Clinic” is Tuesday, August 4 from 1 to 6:00 p.m. at Dykshoorn Park in Mandan, just off Main Street.
Children have fun learning health and safety tips before heading back to school. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal or doll to “Alex’s Buddy Clinic.” Each child receives a medical record for their “buddy,” which is then “evaluated” by a CHI St. Alexius Health medical provider. At the completion of their “clinic visit,” each child receives discharge instructions for their “buddy.”
Other activities include aerobics for kids, educational booths, inflatables, games and races, food and prizes. Children can tour emergency vehicles and meet the men and women who use them. Free child identification cards are offered to all children and their parents.
The “Back to School Extravaganza” takes place in conjunction with Morton Mandan Public Library’s End of Summer Reading Program, Dacotah Lions’ Burgers in the Park and the Music Association Summer Band Shell Concert. Healthy food choices and entertainment are avaBack to School Extravaganzailable.
This event is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares® program. For five dollars each, you can purchase books and plush toys at Kohl’s and 100 percent of the net profit from the sale of these items is donated to kids’ health and education initiatives nationwide.
