CHI St. Alexius Health Celebrates Volunteers

April is National Volunteer Month and CHI St. Alexius Health recognized its 208 volunteers at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday, April 7.

At CHI St. Alexius Health, volunteers are present in almost every area of care. On a daily basis 22 volunteers greet and assist patients and visitors, deliver flowers and cards, assemble admitting packets and mailings and help the nurses make instrument packs, amongst other activities.

“Our volunteers selflessly give the generous contribution of their time, talent and heart to our patients, their families and the staff. They are shining stars that contribute to the personal care for which CHI St. Alexius Health is known,” states Laurie Hatzenbuhler, director of volunteer services.

At the luncheon, volunteers were treated to a meal, live music and door prizes. Rosanne Schmidt, vice president nursing administration and chief nursing officer gave an update on various activities going on within the medical center.

In 2014, CHI St. Alexius Health had 249 volunteers who dedicated more than 23,169 hours of service in over 26 departments at the medical center, allowing CHI St. Alexius Health to continue to provide the best personalized healthcare to its patients.

CHI St. Alexius Health has a long history of volunteerism. Today, the program is continually expanding to accommodate volunteers of all ages including a junior volunteer opportunity for young teens.
