St. Alexius Medical Center Receives Award for Outstanding Organ Donation Rates

St. Alexius Medical Center is one of 430 hospitals nationwide to be awarded the 2009 Silver 1 Medal of Honor for Organ Donation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Silver 1 Medal of Honor was awarded to St. Alexius Medical Center for achieving and sustaining national goals for donation, including a donation rate of 75 percent or more of eligible donors.

“St. Alexius’ commitment to organ donation is made possible through our Donor Resource Team which works to promote and implement the best donation practices at St. Alexius,” says Andrew L. Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer, St. Alexius Medical Center. “Our partnership with LifeSource, the Organ Procurement Organization for the upper Midwest, plays an integral part in educating families about the option of organ donation.”

The Silver 1 Medal of Honor, reflects St. Alexius achievement of a 75% conversion/donation rate and 3.75 organs donated per donor.
