Kohl's Cares for Kids® Offers $5 Books and Plush Animals to Benefit the St. Alexius Medical Center Foundation

Posted on 5/30/2008

Kohl's Cares for Kids® is kicking into high gear as "Kung Fu Panda" characters hit Kohl's stores nationwide. Now through June, fans can pick up a "Kung Fu Panda" movie story book and three corresponding plush for just $5 each, and Kohl's will donate 100 percent of the net profits to children's health and educational opportunities including the St. Alexius Medical Center / Kohl's Cares for Kids Back to School Extravaganza at the St. Alexius Center for Family Medicine in Mandan.

Based on the DreamWorks Animation film that comes to theaters on June 6th, the "Kung Fu Panda" book will teach children that sometimes the most unlikely person can be a hero and if you believe in your dreams, you can achieve them. The movie and corresponding storybook feature Po, an enthusiastic panda who dreams of becoming a kung fu master like his idols, the legendary Furious Five. Po learns kung fu and uses his new skills to defend the Valley of Peace and turn his dreams into reality.

The story is a perfect match for Kohl's Cares for Kids® which has helped hospitals nationwide accomplish great things. Over the past two years, Kohl's Cares for Kids® has given more than $20,000 to support educational opportunities for students throughout the Bismarck-Mandan community. This year, Kohl's will provide an additional $18,000 to support healthcare education.

A new event, the St. Alexius Medical Center / Kohl's Cares for Kids Back to School Extravaganza will be held August 5, 2008. This event will invite Kindergarten through 6th grade students to learn about back to school safety through activities and learning opportunities designed for students and their parents. Students will also have the opportunity to receive immunizations and other screenings.

Nationally, Kohl's Cares for Kids® benefits 153 hospitals. From the program's inception in 2000 through 2007, Kohl's has turned $5 books and plush into more than $102 million for children nationwide while providing affordable books for millions of eager readers. The "Kung Fu Panda" book and the plush characters Po, Shifu and Tigress, are available in store and online.

In addition to the merchandise program, the Kohl's Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program, which will recognize young volunteers with more than $300,000 in scholarships and prizes this year; the A-Team Program, which encourages associate volunteerism and provides grants to youth-focused nonprofit organizations; and Kohl's Cares for Kids® features fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations.
