You will meet with an exercise physiologist who will take into consideration your health status, consult your physician if necessary and design a program to address your health concerns and fitness needs.
Prior to starting your exercise program you will undergo the components of a fitness assessment that are appropriate for you. The assessment takes an hour and includes:
- Review of your health history
- Measurement of height and weight
- Measurement of blood pressure and pulse
- Measurement of blood pressure and pulse rate
- Measurement of body fat
- Flexibility and strength tests
- Cardiovascular fitness assessment
- Laboratory requisition to have your blood glucose and cholesterol levels checked
The information from these procedures will be used to determine your current fitness level and to develop your individualized exercise program. You will be instructed which exercise machine is right for you and exactly how long and fast you should exercise. We monitor your heart rate response to exercise at every session to be sure you are exercising at an appropriate level. Your blood pressure will be monitored regularly if necessary.
An exercise physiologist trained in working with people who have special fitness needs will design an exercise program addressing your specific health concerns including:
- Weight management
- Heart disease risk reduction
- Diabetes control
- Flexibility/mobility
- Cardiovascular conditioning
- Muscular strength
- Arthritis
- Lung disease
- Hypertension
- Osteoporosis
For healthy seniors who want to exercise in a group setting this exercise class is designed for you. Classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You will start off with warm-up exercises, stretches and group activities followed by exercise on the cardiovascular equipment, strength training and stretching. In addition, you will have access to the walking track throughout the week. Not only will you get fit, but you will have fun getting together with your peers for physical fitness and socialization.
The “Seniorcise” Fitness Class includes:
- Review of your health history
- Structured exercise program
- Group/class setting
- Interaction with other people with similar goals
If you are already on a regular fitness program, you may want to join as an independent member. You will have access to all of the exercise equipment, walking track, locker room, jacuzzi, and sauna (the independent program does not include the fitness testing, however, you will be instructed on how to safely use the equipment).
If you have health concerns or limitations with exercising in a group setting, inquire about our personal training or supervised exercise programs.
