The Birthplace - Women's Health
The Birthplace and Parent Information When you are planning a pregnancy or if you are pregnant, it is important to choose a doctor who can provide care for all of your healthcare needs, as well as during your pregnancy and delivery. St. Alexius Medical Center focuses on family-centered care and provides a wide range of services for the mother and baby from pregnancy through childhood.
The nurses and physicians at St. Alexius are prepared to handle your birthing experience with care and compassion. Labor & Delivery St. Alexius Labor and Delivery has five birthing suites and is staffed by highly trained nurses. At St. Alexius patients will experience privacy and comfort by being able to labor, deliver and recover in the same room.
To promote bonding we encourage baby to stay with mom and dad through the birth process. Three of the suites are equipped with whirlpool tubs to help promote relaxation and aid in pain management. Moms that require c-sections are able to recover in Labor and Delivery and are able to keep their baby with them.
At The Birth Place, you will find one-on-one care and feel a personalized touch during the labor process.

Mom/Baby Birth is one of life's most special events and can be a positive time of growth for you and your family. An atmosphere focusing on family-centered care is optimal and the focus at St. Alexius. To help celebrate and announce the arrival of your baby, Brahms Lullaby is played over the St. Alexius public address system.
The mom/baby unit at St. Alexius was designed to focus on the family. Each mother receives a private, spacious room that allows for the baby, family and visitors to share in this experience and begin developing new relationships.
You may choose to "room-in" with your baby for part or all of the day during your stay at The Birth Place. To further promote the bonding process we support rooming-in, which allows you and your baby special time together to get to know each other. When your baby is in the nursery, nurses will provide care for your baby. Nursery doors are locked at all times. Room Service Dining is offered to patients to help enhance their experience while at St. Alexius. Each patient will be provided a menu to select their meals.
Although many nurses will be involved in the care of you and your baby, mother-baby nursing gives one nurse primary responsibility in caring for the two of you. You may rely on her to help you plan your own postpartum care and to help you feel more confident with the care and feeding of your baby.
