Men's and Women's Health Rehab Services The St. Alexius Human Performance Center (HPC) physical therapy program provides treatment and therapies for the specific health needs of women and men. The HPC focuses care on pelvic floor dysfunction including pain and incontinence, prostate disorders, voiding, dysfunction, pregnancy / postpartum, and lymphedema. Initial care will require an evaluation by your primary care provider and/or specialty physician. (OB/GYN, Oncology, Urologist, etc.)
When referred for therapy, a comprehensive evaluation will include assessment of posture, range of motion, strength, motor control, joints and nerves. Based on these findings, the therapist will create an individualized treatment plan. The ultimate goal of therapy is to return you to a full active lifestyle with daily activities and leisure.
Women's and Men's health conditions that may require treatment:- Arthritis/Osteoporosis
- Endometriosis
- Dyspareunia- painful intercourse
- Joint malalignment
- Hypermobility
- Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
- Interstitial cystitis
- Coccyx (tailbone) associated pain
- Nocturia- nighttime voiding

- Pelvic pain
- Pain in lower abdomen, groin, vagina, or rectum area

Should I seek treatment? Take the quiz below. Symptoms that may indicate the need to see your physician and consider physical therapy treatment:~Do you leak urine when you cough or sneeze? ~Do you have a strong, sudden urge of your bowel or bladder that you cannot control? ~Do you experience pain with urination, bowel movement, or intercourse? ~Do you wear an undergarment to protect yourself from leakage or bowel or bladder? ~Have you altered your social activities due to fear of bowel or bladder leakage? ~Are you frequently up at night secondary to the urge to urinate? ~Are you going to the bathroom more than every three to four hours during the day? If you answered yes to any of the above you may be a good candidate for physical therapy treatment.
What can I expect from physical therapy? A comprehensive evaluation and treatment that may include the following:- Pelvic floor rehabilitation
- To restore optimal performance of pelvic floor muscles and joints
- Biofeedback-strategies to decrease tone, improve awareness, manage condition
- Ultrasound
- TENS
- Electrical Stimulation- use of electrical impulses to promote muscle and tissue healing
- Home exercise program- customized exercises
- Biomechanical recommendations
- Provide information on improving movement and posture
- Manual Therapy
- Soft tissue mobilization
- Manual stretching
- Myofascial release
- Joint mobilization/muscle energy techniques
- Lymphedema treatment
