Creating a Reputation for Success

Increase Your Area of Expertise

Progressive employers want people who can achieve high levels of performance. Thoroughly knowing your job enables you to produce more in your present position. Also, learn as many aspects of the functioning of your organization as you can. The most valuable employees in todays job market are those who know how to do more than one job and who are then willing to be flexible in carrying them out.

Become a Problem Solver

Try to determine the most serious problems your organization is facing. Then be in a position to offer viable suggestions and solutions. Since most organizations are operating with fewer personnel than even a few years ago, it is necessary for many employees to work harder and to demonstrate the ability to be innovative and creative.

Show Interest & Enthusiasm

Always be interested in the other persons ideas. Direct conversation to the other individuals interests rather than talking about yourself. If you are absorbed in the interests of others, they will become attentive to yours. And, be sure to remember the names of those you encounter. To accomplish this, give attention to the other person so that the name will register. Remember that a persons name is important and you will enhance your reputation for sincerity and professionalism by remembering those you meet for even the very first time.

Develop & Convey Confidence

Convey an image of yourself as being competent, effective and successful. Hold that image firmly in mind and do not let self-doubt cloud your view of yourself. Whenever a negative thought comes to mind, immediately cancel it out as unworthy, untrue and unrealistic. The more vigorously you cancel it out, the weaker it will become until it will disappear altogether.

Be Genuine & Friendly

To get along with colleagues, it is necessary to be a likable person. Be easy to get along with so that there is no strain in being with you. Avoid being on edge and sensitive. People tend to shy away from the overly sensitive co-workers fearing to arouse an unpleasant reaction. Avoid the temptation to react with hurt or angry feelings and you will get along better with people. If being with you makes people feel better and more alive, they will want to be with you and your personal and professional reputation will be enhanced.
