Follow a Lower Fat & Cholesterol Diet
Use half the amount of fat or oil you would normally use.
- Switch from butter to soft margarine.
- Choose unsaturated oils.
- Avoid hardened shortening and lard.
- Choose lean cuts of meat and trim fat from meat before and/or after cooking. Remove skin from poultry before or after cooking.
- Roast, bake, broil or simmer meat, poultry, or fish rather than fry.
- Buy lower fat versions of your favorite dairy products such as skim milk and low fat based cheese.
- Try low fat or non fat versions of sour cream, yogurt, mayonnaise, or salad dressing.
- Use low fat or fat free marinades to tenderize and add flavor to leaner cuts of meats.
- Chill soups and stews and skim off the fat that collects on the surface.
