Radiology is a key diagnostic tool used by physicians to monitor, treat and predict patient outcome. It utilizes state-of-the-art equipment, like the Picture Archive Communications System (PACS), called I-Site. This system allows digital images to be viewed instantaneously by physicians throughout the clinic and at CHI St. Alexius Health where the images are read by radiologists.
CHI St. Alexius Health Medical Plaza – Mandan is staffed by certified radiology technologists who have received specialized education in the areas of patient care, principles of radiation, radiographic positioning and radiation protection.
CHI St. Alexius Health Medical Plaza – Mandan has a full complement of radiology services which include:
- Digital Diagnostic Imaging X-rays are used to produce digital radiographs used in the evaluation of many bone and soft tissue structures.
Mammography is a low dose x-ray of the breast. It is the best way to detect breast cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in women, during the early, more treatable stages. The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive an annual mammogram beginning at age 40.
- Dexa Scans are a bone density exam used to detect bone loss. Advanced bone loss is called osteoporosis. It is a skeletal disorder characterized by compromised bone strength, predisposing an individual to an increased fracture risk. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that women older than the age of 65 should have a Dexa Scan.
- CT combines a series of x-rays taken from different angles to produce cross-sectional images of the bones and soft tissue of the body. It produces a volume of information that the radiologist can look at or slice from top to bottom, side to side or front to back.
