Abdomen – Complete and Limited

Please report to Admitting 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time.

PREP: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight / 8 hours

PURPOSE: An ultrasound of the Abdomen is ordered if the person is experiencing abdomen pain, abnormal or elevated liver function tests, Ascites, Cirrhosis, or if a mass is seen within the abdomen discovered by another modality.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Patient will be scanned lying down on a cart. A gel (lotion) will be applied to the area being scanned. A series of images will be obtained which will be read by a Radiologist.

TIME FRAME: 30 – 45 minutes

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS: None

IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, INFORM THE TECHNOLOGIST BEFORE THE EXAM.
