Peri-Anesthesia
consists of the Pre-Op Hold (POH) and Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU).
Outpatient surgical, A.M. admit surgical, inpatient surgical and invasive
diagnostic procedure patients are managed in the POH and PACU. Patients are
managed in PACU for the immediate pre-operative preparation and Phase I
post-anesthesia recovery care. The following special procedures are
performed in PACU: bone marrow biopsy, electroconvulsive therapy,
transesophageal echocardiogram, cardioversions, pain blocks, lumbar
punctures, nerve blocks, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, central line
insertion and pain management.
