Nursing Philosophy

The St. Alexius Department of Nursing utilizes its presence in promoting an

environment that fosters a holistic approach to healing, caring, support and

education to the patient, family and community.

We believe nursing care at St. Alexius is patient/client centered as

evidenced by:

  • Respecting the rights of all to fair and equal treatment consistent with the

Mission of St. Alexius Medical Center.

  • Empowering the patients/clients to direct their care by providing education and resources to effect a positive outcome.
  • Including families and/or significant others in the plan of care and recognizing personal values, rights and religious beliefs.
  • Providing care in a goal-directed manner that enhances clinical care and patient safety.
  • Affirming care that responds to the spiritual needs of patients/clients,

    their families and/or significant others.

We believe nursing is an independent and collaborative provider of health

care as evidenced by:

  • Accepting responsibility, accountability, and authority for actions commensurate with independent levels of expertise.
  • Respecting the contributions of all health care providers in planning, delivery, and evaluation to assure continuity.

We believe healthcare providers are most successful in a positive and

supportive environment as evidenced by:

  • Participating in decision making

    processes which involve nursing practice.

  • Recruiting and retaining excellent personnel.
  • Encouraging and supporting innovation.
  • Effectively utilizing human and fiscal resources.
  • Encouraging and supporting the personal and professional development of

    each healthcare provider.

  • Positive role modeling and mentoring.
  • Attention to the cultural and ethnic diversity within the healthcare setting.
