Wound Care Program at St. AlexiusEvery year, 3 to 5 million Americans suffer from acute and chronic wounds caused by diabetes, poor circulation or other conditions. CHI St. Alexius Health is pleased to offer an outpatient wound care program to handle a variety of acute and chronic wounds, fistulas and ostomies.

Acute Versus Chronic Wounds
Acute – An acute wound is an injury that causes a break in the skin and can be caused by an incision, puncture, abrasion or laceration.

Chronic – Chronic wounds develop when an acute wound fails to completely heal within six weeks due to poor blood supply, infection, disease or other health related factors.

Our dedicated multi-disciplinary team consists of a certified wound ostomy continence nurse/nurse practitioner, infectious disease physician, Home Care & Hospice certified wound care nurse, primary care providers, general surgeon and physical therapists.
