Please report to Admitting 15 minutes before your

scheduled exam time.

PREP:

No barium studies 2-3 days prior to the scan. Drink

plenty of fluids before exam.

PURPOSE:

A Renal Scan is done to check the size, shape, and

function of the kidneys.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

You will be asked to lie on a scanning table for 30

minutes. An injection of a radioactive material will be made into a vein

in your arm. The camera, which is below the table, will scan this material

as it collects in and filters out of your kidneys. You will need to lie

still during the entire exam.

TIME FRAME:

45 minutes

POSSIBLE

COMPLICATIONS: Minimal to no side effects

from the radioactive isotope.

IF YOU ARE PREGNANT,

INFORM THE TECHNOLOGIST BEFORE THE EXAM.
