Medical Services : Mandan Clinic : Mole Excisions

Center for Family Medicine - Mole Excisions

What is it?
A mole is cut out from the surrounding skin.

Why do I need it?
Moles are removed if they appear suspicious for skin cancer, or if they become irritated and cause discomfort.

How is it done?
The doctor cleans the skin with a sterile wipe and numbs the area with a small injection. Depending on the size of the mole, a scalpel or a circular tube called a punch is used to cut out the mole. You will probably need a stitch or two to close the wound.
