I131 Total Body Thyroid
Please report to Admitting 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time.
PREP: Nothing to eat 4 hours before pill administration. Eat lightly day of imaging.
PURPOSE: Localization and evaluation for metastasizing or recurrent thyroid carcinoma.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The technologist will give a detailed explanation of the examination when you arrive. Specific radiation safety instructions need to be discussed. You will be given a pill of radioactive iodine to swallow. Imaging of your total body will obtained 48 or 72 hours following. Feel free to bring an iPod or other listening device for relaxation.
TIME FRAME: 1 hour.
POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS: Minimal to no side effects from the radioactive isotope.
