The Senior Healthcare Professional Summit is a biennial one-day event focusing on the physical, mental and spiritual health of senior adults. General session and workshop speakers will present information, identify challenges and suggest appropriate responses for the care of seniors.
Social workers, clergy, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, other interested healthcare professionals and other professionals who provide health-related and supportive services to senior adults, Alzheimer’s and end-of-life patients are invited to attend. Family members and seniors may also benefit from attending the Family Caregiving Session, which is offered the evening of the conference.
**Handouts for this conference will be available online starting February 18, 2016 through March 10, 2016. Please note printed copies will not be available at the conference.

Keynote Speakers
Susan Wehry, MD, is a geriatric psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience in late life mental health issues, currently on the adjunct faculty at the University of New England College of Medicine. A nationally recognized speaker and advocate, Dr. Wehry has educated policymakers, caregivers, administrators, physicians and other health and human service professionals from Alaska to Florida. In 2002 and 2007, Susan assisted the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) in the development of web-casts on mental health needs of residents in nursing homes and has been an active partner in CMS’ current initiative to improve dementia care. She authored a curriculum known as Oasis which has successfully helped transform care, reduce unnecessary antipsychotic medications and support mental health recovery in over 300 homes in Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. During her tenure as commissioner, Vermont rose to number one for senior health in America’s Health Rankings and Dr. Wehry was honored to participate in both the regional forum and national 2015 White House Conference on Aging. Dr. Wehry is passionate about promoting healthy aging. In her talk “Expanding the Aging Conversation,” she makes the case for “60 being the new 20” and describes both the developmental challenges and unprecedented opportunities of growing old.
Terry Ferebee Eckmann, PhD, is a professor at Minot State University. Terry presents internationally and writes for a variety of health and fitness publications. She has been active in the fitness industry for 30 years. She has received the NDAHPERD Honors Award, NDAHPERD University Instructor of the Year Award, MSU Regents Award for Research and Scholarship, ND Picture of Health Award, IDEA Make Fitness Happen Award and the Industry Enhancement Award from Club Industry. Eckmann serves on the advisory board of the International Council on Active Aging. She hosts KXMC TV Eye on Fitness, a fitness segment on the noon show for the Minot viewing region.
Goals and Objectives
To present the latest information on the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of healthcare to the aging population, general session and workshop speakers will identify challenges and suggest appropriate responses to health-related geriatric concerns.
At the conclusion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Discuss information on health-related, end-of-life, dementia, ethical and spiritual care of senior adults.
- Describe current issues facing the geriatric population and appropriate responses.
- Identify compassionate approaches to senior care.

Continuing Education Credits
CHI St. Alexius Health is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Application is being made for a total of 9.5 contact hours when attending both the day and evening sessions. No evening attendance would equate 6.5 contact hours. Certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants.
Social Workers may receive up to 8.5 CEUs when attending both the day and evening sessions. Sessions approved for Social Work CEUs are marked with an asterisk (*). Session 10 meets SW license requirement for one ethical CEU.

Registration Information
Fee:
The registration fee is $129. This includes materials, lunch and refreshments. Pre-registration is required. Registration must be postmarked by Thursday, February 18, 2016. Payment MUST accompany registration. One person per registration.
CHI St. Alexius Health employees receive a discounted registration fee of $89. Please list your department on the registration form.
Late Registration:
If registration is after Thursday, February 18, there will be a $30 additional charge, for a total of $159. On-site registration fee is $159, space permitting.
Cancellation:
There is a $30 cancellation fee if you choose to cancel before February 18, 2016. Conference fee may be transferred to another person without penalty. No refunds will be given if requested on or after February 18, 2016.
Program Changes:
CHI St. Alexius Health reserves the right to make program changes or to cancel the conference. In the event of cancellation, only those who pre-register will be notified and their fees will be refunded in full.
