Please report to Admitting 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time.

PREP: Nothing to eat after midnight / 8 hours. Should be hydrated with water only.

PURPOSE: A Kidney Ultrasound is performed for hematuria, acute renal failure, renal insufficiency, hydronephrosis, pyelonephritis, or if a mass is seen on other imaging.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Patient will be scanned lying down on a cart. A gel (lotion) will be applied to the area being scanned. A series of images will be obtained which will be read by a Radiologist.

TIME FRAME: 30 – 45 minutes

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS: None

IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, INFORM THE TECHNOLOGIST BEFORE THE EXAM.
