Parathyroid Scan

Please report to Admitting 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time.

PREP: No prep.

PURPOSE: Identification of adenomas, hypercalcemia, elevated PTH levels.

WHAT TO EXPECT: You will be injected with a radioactive isotope by the technologist. After a 15 minute waiting period, an image with be taken of your neck. The image will need to be repeated 2-3 hours later.

TIME FRAME: 3 hours

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS: Minimal to no side effects from the radioactive isotope.
